I’m still looking for blocking pins to block Wendy, my first thread crochet project, but I decided to tackle another one anyway. I have an afghan on the go, but I often like to switch between two (or three) projects so that I don’t get bored.
Last night I looked through the patterns I had, and then remembered that Grace Fearon from Emilyandthe Handmade had released a new pattern last weekend, called Winter, and I had been admiring it, so I decided to give it a go. The completed doily resembles a snowflake to me, so I think the name is appropriate.
Here is Winter up to the end of round 4, which is as far as I’ve gotten. I’m debating whether to do the whole thing in blue or mix in some white, I may test a few rounds before I decide for certain.
So far I’m loving Winter…and I don’t say that very often because I don’t like the actual season.
If you like thread crochet, and you haven’t checked out Grace’s designs, I encourage you to do so. She has some free patterns available on her website, and she sells the others individually in her Ravelry store. I have a dozen of her paid patterns (all of which I hope to actually make sometime) and more on my wish list.

I really enjoy using crochet thread. I have not checked out Grace’s designs – actually I created an account on Ravelry and then never used it. I go straight to YouTube when I’m looking for inspiration or instructions on how to do something. There are a LOT of amazing doily patterns – Joanna Stawniak is amazing!! Jeego Crochet is also another very good one, and Sheruknitting has some really beautiful thread designs. 😀

Never heard of thread crochet! Is it so called because of the yarn that is used?

I don’t know that it’s an official term, but yes, it just has to do with the type of yarn you use, or in the case, crochet thread.
