It’s day 6 already! I can’t believe how quickly the days are passing, before you know it, I’ll be opening my last tin of tea for this year! Today’s tea is North African Mint, which is a green tea. I have to admit, that even though I love green tea, I wasn’t thrilled to see this one. Mint is not my favourite flavour, but as usual I tried to keep an open mind. According to the blurb on this tea it also contains cardamom, ginger, and licorice. We’ll just see if I can detect them.
As expected, when I opened the tin, the strongest scent was mint. I was totally prepared for that, as I have had green teas in the past with mint, and they smelled very similar.
Today I pulled out my clear teapot to steep my tea. I bought it one day when I was shopping in the Byward market here in Ottawa, in some little store that I found. It’s been a few years, so I don’t recall which store it was, but I love it because it has a little basket infuser to hold the loose tea leaves while steeping, and it’s great for showing off colourful teas like the dark pink ones from earlier in the week.
Once again, I used water heated to a lower temperature, and only steeped for about 2 minutes, so the green tea did not turn bitter. After steeping, this tea still smells like mint, and I armed myself with a packet of stevia, just in case I needed to sweeten it up a bit.
The tea has a bit of a peppery flavour, and it leaves a minty fresh feeling behind and kind of makes my tongue feel numb. I think I can detect a bit of ginger, but I don’t taste any cardamom or licorice. Happily I did not need to resort to using the stevia.
Overall my opinion of this tea is that it’s okay. I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it. I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it, but I wouldn’t refuse if a friend offered me a cup.
Are there any flavours you don’t like in tea? Another flavour I don’t like is ginger. I love to cook with ginger, and I like it in other things, but I don’t care for it in tea.

Some of them are tough to open! Yesterday my lid was on crooked and I had a hard time opening it, but I persevered. I hope you’re able try it soon.

Recently I have started enjoying herbal teas, lemon green tea and ginger green tea are my favourites (I hate green tea on its own).

Wow you are brave! I would have skipped trying this one. I despise mint and licorice. I’m imagining what it tasted like and the only word that comes to mind is “ew” lol.

I bet the peppery part was the ginger. I sometimes drink hot water with lemon and ginger and I would describe it the same. My preferred mint tea is straight peppermint

Yes I wondered if it was the ginger, because I’ve noticed it in a few other teas that contain it.

I don’t like mint either. But ginger and licorice teas are delicious. Time raid my cabinet and see if I can find my Ginger Peach tea since I’m now craving it! 🙂

Wise choice for brewing today! Makes the whole experience more magical. I’m not a fan of green tea or most teas for that matter. Pretty fussy I guess. 🙂 I am a coffee girl.
