Jasmine’s Portrait in Watercolour

Portrait in watercolor of a pale, blue eyed chihuahua on white paper

I finished my portrait of Jasmine a while back. This was my third attempt after doing two practice pieces. I am fairly happy with it, and will probably attempt it again after another 6 months or a year to see if my skills have improved. This was my first pet portrait, and I learned a lot from it, but I’m still very much a beginner.

The final version above was painted on Baohong Academy 10.2 x 7 inch, 100% Cotton Cold Press 140lb paper and using Winsor & Newton Professional watercolor paint.

Three portraits of a light colored blue eyed chihuahua on paper.

Above are my three attempts in the order I painted them. The first is on Artist’s Loft Level 2 140 lb Cold Press paper using Winsor & Newton Cotman paint. The second was also on Artist’s Loft Level 2 140 lb Cold Press paper but using Winsor & Newton Professional paint.

And this was the source photo I used. You can see why I wanted to paint her, she’s such a cutie.
