I got a bit behind and missed scheduling a couple of blog posts last week. I’m trying to get to the point that I have some posts scheduled well in advance, so that if I get busy my blog doesn’t sit, silent, for long periods again. Today I’m back with another book review of The Scot & the Sorceress by Claire Delacroix.
The Scot & the Sorceress is book 4, and the final book in Claire Delacroix’s Blood Brothers Series, and it was a really wonderful ending to the series.
The Scot & the Sorceress is the story of Murdoch and Nyssa. Murdoch is the unknown half-brother, who has vowed vengeance for the death the man who raised him, and Nyssa is a seer and healer determined to help him put his past behind him.
I’ve found it a challenge of late to get absorbed in a book, so I was pleased to find that once again the author has penned a book that I found impossible to put down once I started reading.
I have to admit that after some of Murdoch’s actions in previous books, and even his plans at the beginning of this one, I wasn’t sure how the author was going to be able to redeem him, but I shouldn’t have doubted her.
There were so many things I loved about this story. First we got to revisit, if briefly, most of the characters from the previous books. We also finally got to see a couple of repeat characters get their just deserts, and it almost made me feel sorry for at least one of them. I’ll leave it to you to figure out which if you read the book.
Although there was quite a bit of action in this story, there was also a lot of internal conflict for Murdoch as he fought with his sense of honour and the vows he had made.
Kidnapping, betrayals, justice, sword fights, and love, this book had it all. I’m sad to see this series end, but glad I can reread it any time.
The Scot & the Sorceress released on August 29th 2023. Full disclosure, in addition to receiving and ARC I also bought a copy because I loved both the book and the series. The author has said she may release a hard copy of the entire series via a Kickstarter early in 2024, and if she does I’ll be one of the first people to be supporting it.
