Review: Silence for the Dead by Simone St. James

As Silence for the Dead by Simone St. James begins, Kitty Weekes is arriving for her new job at Portis House, a hospital where soldiers suffering with mental illness after World War One are sent.

Portis House and it’s mysterious background were the perfect backdrop for this gothic style novel. It was a spooky, paranormal tale that kept me reading until the wee hours, even though I had vowed that wouldn’t happen.

Intermingled with the spooky goings on, and the mystery of what is really going on with the hospital and its owners and the secrets everyone is trying to keep, is a sweet love story.

I enjoyed everything about this book; the setting, the paranormal bits, the romance, the mystery, the characters, everything.

The only other book I’ve ready by Simone St. James prior to this one was The Book of Cold Cases, but I think I need to go back and check out more of her work. If you’re looking for a spooky read in keeping with the upcoming Halloween season, then this may be a good fit for you!
