Review: An Inquiry into Love and Death by Simone St. James

After reading one of Simone St. James’s books recently, I put a bunch of them on my holds list at the library and a few of them finally came in. This was one of them. I read a bunch back to back in October 2023, but I will probably spread out the reviews on them.

An Inquiry into Love and Death, so far, has been one of my favourites.

Set in 1924, Jillian Leigh age 22 heads to a small coastal town, to identify the body of her uncle Toby and to gather his belongings from Barrow House, the house he was renting while staying in the area. Uncle Toby was a ghost hunter and before long Jillian is drawn into the mystery of his death, and why he was in the area.

I am just loving the combination of mystery, paranormal, and romance that Simone St. James brings to each of her books. This one was full of suspense, not only with regard to the ghost, Walking John, and his malevolent actions, but also with the mystery that was going on in the town.

An Inquiry into Love and Death kept me awake reading late into the night and I can safely say it won’t be the last of her books that I read. I’ve already read several more since finishing it and I am currently on the last book in her backlist.

I highly recommend this one if your looking for a spooky mystery with a side of romance.
