Ghost With the Most by Mallory Pierce is a light paranormal cozy mystery and the second book in the Ghostwriter Mystery series.
I found this to be an original take on a cozy mystery. Told in first person from the point of view of Gwen Frink the ghost of a 23 year old woman who has been dead for 133 year, and who can only communicate with Nolan Drake, a descendent of her family, and the current owner of the house she is haunting. Incidentally, he’s also a writer of horror novels.
This is book 2 in this series, but I found it quite easy to pick up without having read the first novel.
In this book, Nolan’s ex, Karissa, shows up unexpectedly, and shortly afterward, her other ex ends up dead at the resort where she’s staying. While helping Nolan to investigate the murder, she happens across another ghost, Lorenzo Ricci, the first she has come across in the 133 years since she died.
I found this mystery interesting, with a lot of funny moments due to Gwen’s misinterpretation of modern expressions used by those around her. The only thing I wonder is if previous books would give more insight into how she spent the previous 133 years. Did she spend it all alone? I’m assuming yes, otherwise she would have known many of the expressions she misunderstood.
Anyway, like most cozy mysteries there was quite a cast of characters to provide lots of suspects for the murder. I quite enjoyed this book and will probably pick up the first book and be on the lookout for further books in the series.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
