ARC Review: The Bluestocking’s Bargain by Claire Delacroix

The Bluestocking’s Bargain is book 5 in Claire Delacroix’s fantastic regency romance series, The Ladies’ Essential Guide to the Art of Seduction.

I know I sound like a broken record with each book that comes out in this series, but I think this one is my favourite so far. The books in this series just keep getting better and better.

Patience Carruthers is a girl after my own heart, she loves books and believes she would be content to remain single, with her books for company, if it weren’t for the fact that she would have limited resources in the event of her father’s passing. To that end, she decides that she probably does need to consider marriage.

Arthur has a secret, and is suddenly forced to consider marriage himself. After having met and been captivated by Patience, he impulsively decides to propose to her.

From the very first page, I loved this story. The banter between Arthur and Patience in that opening scene was just so witty and fun, it engaged my interest right away and I hated that I had to put the book down when I was no longer able to keep my eyes open.

I enjoyed the alternating points of view between Arthur and Patience, it was interesting to see how each of them viewed the events that were happening.

If you’ve read the previous books, you will recognize a few familiar faces. This book has fewer side stories than some of the previous books, but I don’t mind that. I think Patience and Arthur deserved to have all of the attention for their story. I will say that there was one scene between two side characters that had me squealing with delight, but I won’t mention who…if you’re familiar with the characters you may know the scene I’m talking about.

The Bluestocking’s Bargain was a delight, and I’m very much looking forward to the next book in the series. If you’re a lover of historical romance, and the regency period specifically, I think you’ll enjoy this book.

I received an advance review copy for free (I also bought a copy), and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The Bluestocking’s Bargain is was release on October 29 2024.
