What the Fang is book 4 in Jo-Ann Carson’s Fangsters series, a series about a witch who is blackmailed into heading up a school for delinquent vampires.
This time around, Rebel is looking for a Fang Hunter, someone who is stealing the fangs of her vampire charges while they sleep, so that they can sell them on the black market.
What the Fang was an enjoyable read, it’s quite a bit shorter than other books in the series so it was quick, and relatively fast paced. Because it was so short, new readers might find it a bit harder to jump into than other books in the series since it just lightly glosses over the backstory running through the series.
Although I enjoyed the story I was a bit disappointed that it didn’t really advance any of the plots running through the series. We didn’t see any further development of the relationship between Rebel and Onyx, since he wasn’t present for most of the book. And we didn’t learn anything else about the secret Alessandro is using to blackmail her with.
I was also kind of disappointed to see the reappearance of her vendetta against her ex boyfriend, Dakota. I really feel like this revenge plot makes Rebel appear weak, and obsessed, rather than the strong, independent character I think the author would like for her to be.
Still, I’m looking forward to checking out book five in the series, I do like the characters and their relationships, and would like to see if we ever find out Rebel’s horrible secret.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
What the Fang will be available on November 13 2024.
