The Wedding Party by Rebecca Heath is a thriller set on the Australian coast as family and friends gather to celebrate the coming marriage of childhood sweethearts Adele and Jason…but are they really childhood sweethearts?
There were a lot of really unlikeable characters (not least of which were Adele’s parents) in this book which could have really turned me off of it, luckily there was an occasional appearance by Laila, Jason’s grandmother’s dog, to make for a bit of comic relief. To be honest, the only person who seemed like a decent human with redeemable qualities was the guy everyone hated.
Told from the points of view, and 2 different timelines, it’s obvious from the start that the death of their friend Ollie was anything but an accident, and that something is wrong with this relationship. And not only that, but just about everyone in this group is hiding something.
I thought I had this mystery figured out pretty early in the book, but while I was partially right, there was a twist at the end that I did not see coming, as well as a shocking event that made me increase my rating from 3 to 4 stars.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The Wedding Party will be available on January 23 2025.
