Maybe it’s just because I’m getting older myself (although I’m still significantly younger than the characters in the book) but The Old Girls’ Chateau Escape by Kate Galley proves that seniors can make for interesting main characters.
Gina has been convinced by her friend and current boss, Dorothy, to act as carer for an elderly couple, one of whom is a fairly famous romance author with a connection to Dorothy. The author is penning her memoir, and Dorothy is worried about something from their shared past being included, so wants Gina to report back on the book’s contents.
The book is charming and at times humorous,, with a hint of a mystery or two, and a touch of romance to round things out.
I don’t want to give too much away, so I will just say that if in doubt, you should give this book a try. It was entertaining, and interesting enough that I read it in a single sitting.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The Old Girl’s’ Chateau Escape will be available on January 29 2025.
