Crumpled: Stories from the Horror Archives is an enjoyable book of short stories from a grouip of authors. The collection of stories contains a variety of horror styles, from creepy and mildly paranormal, to violent and gory.
I’m not the hugest horror fan in the world, I prefer my horror on the milder side, and I still enjoyed most of the stories in this book. The stories I didn’t necessarily enjoy were mostly due to my personal preferences, and not due to the quality of the stories.
Likewise, I’m also not the biggest fan of short stories. In general I find they are too short to really give you a good background or plot, but after reading these I think horror lends itself very well to the short story format. I didn’t feel there was a lot missing from any of these stories like I normally do with a romance or a mystery, for example. And I loved that I could pick up my ereader, and read a story or two, then put it down and carry on with other tasks, or go to sleep. As someone who has a hard time putting a book down until I’ve completed reading the whole story, I really appreciated that.
I think, given the assortment of stories, that this book has something to offer anyone who enjoys horror.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Crumpled: Stories from the Horror Archives will be available on January 31 2025.
