When I Kill You is the latest thriller by B. A. Paris that will drew me in from the first page, and was another novel that I found hard to put down. I picked this one up immediately after the previous thriller I read, and this was another that I finished in a single day, it was that good.
The story is told in dual timelines from the point of view of Nell, formerly Elle. In the present Nell is working at a charity, and has recently been seeing an American man, Alex. The problem is Nell doesn’t now Alex well because he only spends one week out of 4 in London, the rest of his time is spent in Washington D.C. where he is a consultant for businesses exporting goods to Europe.
In addition to Nell’s point of view there are some short chapters showing us the point of view of the would-be killer, which gives us a bit of insight into their mindset, but no real clues as to their motive. The reader can make some guesses based on what we know about Nell’s past as the book goes on, but it’s never really clear of her assumptions are correct or not, which lend to the suspense and mystery surrounding the story.
B.A. Paris is a hit or miss author for me, and this book was one of the hits. The only thing I didn’t care for was the “when I kill you” line that ended every single chapter from the point of view of the killer. After only a couple of chapters it really started to annoy me. I get that it was meant to be a clever tie in to the title of the book but once or twice would have been sufficient in my opinion.
If you love thrillers I think you can’t go wrong with this one, and once again I actually liked some of the characters in this thriller which has been rare of late. That’s two thrillers in a row where enjoyed the story and actually liked and cared for some of the characters in the story.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
When I Kill You will be available on February 17 2026.
