ARC Review: Murder Will Out by Jennifer K. Breedlove

Murder Will Out by Jennifer K. Breedlove is an interesting mix of light gothic horror, and paranormal mystery.

The story is told mostly from the point of view of Willow, a young woman who used to spend her summers in Little North with a woman, Susan, with whom her parents apparently had some sort of falling out. As a result of the falling out, Willow had not seen or heard from Susan since she was a young teen, believing that Susan no longer wanted to be a part of her life.

Willow receives an invitation to Susan’s wedding just before she hears that Susan has died, so she decides to travel to Little North to attend the funeral. When the new owner of Cameron House, a local house rumoured to be haunted, is killed, and Willow finds out that not only Susan, but the previous owner also died, all within a few months of each other, she becomes suspicious that someone is trying to get their hands on the house, and decides to investigate who, and why someone would want to do so.

The atmosphere in the beginning of the book is creepy, and a bit disturbing, but it lightens up as the story goes on. One of the things that contributes to the lightening of the atmosphere is the adorable corgi, Finn, who steals the scenes he’s in, more than once.

The mystery in this book kept me guessing, and the genealogy aspect made it interesting. I did figure out a couple of the reveals at the end, but that did not take away from my enjoyment of the book. This was one of my favourite reads so far this year.

I enjoyed Murder Will Out, for me it was the perfect blend for light horror, and paranormal mystery. If you are a fan of Simone St. James, then I think you may enjoy Murder Will Out.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Mourner Will Out will be available on February 17 2026.
