ARC Review: Dead Channel by Chris Heinicke and Kate Reedwood

Dead Channel is the second book in the Supernatural Slayers series by Chris Heinicke and Kate Reedwood, and it was a nail biting, wild ride!

If you’ve read the other horror books by this pair, then you will love this book, because we are reunited with characters from the Mall Priest series, It Came From the Pumpkin Patch, and It Came From the Flower Shop Down Under. That said, I don’t think it’s necessary to have read those previous books to enjoy this one, it’s just a bit of an added bonus for those who have.

This book gave me anxiety for my favourite characters. So much so that I had to set it aside for a few days, I couldn’t take the stress. These authors certainly know how to dial up the tension by putting their characters into situations that seem impossible to escape. And to make things worse, they are not averse to killing off a favourite character, so you just never know what will happen.

Dead Channel had the same retro feel as the other books this pair has written, and although it’s not super dark, I found it slightly more serious and less comedic than their previous books, but still just as enjoyable.

While the book doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, it does set up for the next book in the series, and I can hardly wait. If you love horror with a retro feel, I think you’ll love Dead Channel. And if you haven’t read the other books by these authors, you are missing out!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Dead Channel will be available on April 10 2026.
