Tea Advent Calendar Day 4 – Organic Silk Dragon Jasmine

I was so excited this evening when I opened the little drawer for the 4th and found Organic Silk Dragon Jasmine tea! I love teas with Jasmine, in fact one of my favourite teas is a Jasmine Oolong.

Organic Silk Dragon Jasmine is a green tea, and when I opened it and smelled the leaves in the tin it smelled like sweet Jasmine. I could sit and smell it all day long.

I used to have a love hate relationship with green tea. I loved it, but it always had a bitter taste which I did not particularly like. Come to find out I was steeping it at too high a temperature and for too long. Once I started using my special tea kettle, and set a timer to steep my teas I had a lot more success, and my love for green tea really took off.

I heated my water to 175 F, and steeped my tea for 2 minutes, and it was perfect. I chose to make the whole tin at once today, so I used my cast iron tea pot, and set it over a warmer with a tealight in it, to keep the tea warm.

After steeping, the jasmine scent was not quite as strong, but it was still there. I couldn’t wait to take a sip, and when I finally did I wasn’t disappointed. My perfectly brewed green tea had a fresh, slightly sweet flavour, with a slightly floral taste.

I know it’s still early in the month, but so far this is my favourite tea from this year’s Advent calendar and it’s going to be hard to knock this one out of first place.
