Reading Progress July 2023

Graphic showing title Reading Progress July 2023 with a stack of books.

It’s been quite a while since I had time to sit and do a timely post about my monthly reading progress, so I thought I would share my year to date stats now that we’re past the halfway mark for the year.

As of the end of July I’ve read 178 books in 2023. I had initially set my GoodReads goal to 150 but raised it when I was about 5 books away from that goal, as I didn’t want to finish it too early. I did the same thing last year, increasing it twice. I usually set initial goal to half what I read the previous year, in case I don’t have as much time to read, but it’s looking like I might get close to 300 again this year if I keep on track.

Each month as I fill out my charts, but especially as I’m getting closer to the end of the year, I’m starting to think about what I want to change for next year. Do I want to track the same genres? What about the other stats? Do I want to add some new chart types? I’m definitely changing up my colour schemes for the charts, because I used too many similar ones this year and I’m finding it hard to tell the difference between a few of the shades once they are in the charts.

If you have any suggestions for what to track, or other ways to track my reading progress I would love to hear them.

    1. I think it comes from my programming background. 😂 I enjoy seeing the visual representation and being able to categorize and analyze what I’ve been reading to see if I really have been reading as much as I think I have, and to see if what I’ve been reading changes from year to year. The planner I use is book oriented and has room for charts and things, so that makes it easier.
