One Year of Watercolour

Page in watercolour sketchbook divided into three sections showing a field with windmill, mountains with a sunset, and a night sky with stars

I realized on Monday when I got a notification on Facebook that on September 4th, it had been one year since I had started trying to learn watercolour! Above are the results of the first tutorial I tried from YouTube by makoccino.

This was the second tutorial I did by makoccino from YouTube, my favourite is the one on the right with the reflection on the water. After this, it’s easy to say I was hooked on learning watercolour and I’m so glad that I’ve stuck with it for a whole year. Here’s to another, and I hope I improve my skills even more over the next 12 months.

I tried quite a few of makoccino’s tutorials, and loved their simple style so much that I also went and bought their book and tried a number of tutorials from it as well. I’m still working my way through the book, interspersing other tutorials by other artists in between.

I often wish I had more time to practice painting, although sometimes even when I have time, I don’t end up painting because I can’t seem to find any inspiration, or I’m afraid to get started. I’m still struggling with the fear of starting a painting in case I fail at it. I’m trying to reframe my thinking to treat every perceived failure as a learning experience so that it’s a positive thing and so that it doesn’t seem so scary to put that first layer of paint on the page.

That’s it for today, I just wanted to share my anniversary with you all. Below are the links to the first two tutorials that I did as well as the book I bought (the link is for Amazon.ca):
