Review: One Knight’s Desire by Claire Delacroix

One Knight’s Desire is book three in Claire Delacroix’s Rogues and Angels series, and so far it’s my favourite of the series. If you aren’t familiar with the series, I don’t think it would be too difficult to jump in with this book. Characters from previous books do make appearances, but I don’t think you would be lost starting with this book.

Magdala has accidentally been trapped for years into masquerading as her dead mistress, Heloise, after a misunderstanding. Heloise’s uncle is determined to make a good match for her, and summons Lothair, a knight and healer, to his keep.

Lothair is the quintessential hero, kind, patient, and protective. He values truth, and unlike most men of the time, values the opinion of a woman he views as his equal.

It was so refreshing to read about a couple who really got along well throughout most of the novel, other than a few minor misunderstandings which were quickly cleared up and did not drag on as a significant part of the plot.

I loved how Lothair really listened to Magdala/Heloise, and valued her opinions, and validated her feelings. He was the perfect hero.

Although the plot from the synopsis makes it sound like the major issue to be resolved for this couple is very straightforward, there were a lot of side plots and surprises in store which kept me turning the pages.

Being part of a series, there were some appearances from some of the other rogues, and in some cases their wives. In this book we also got to know Lord de Tulley a little more after his appearance as more of a background character in the previous books. Lothair’s squire, Calum, really stole the show in some of the scenes he was in, I couldn’t help laughing out loud (my dogs probably thought I was crazy). One of the rogues, Niall, made a significant impact in this story, and I hope he gets his comeuppance if he gets his own book. He really needs to be put in his place.

I highly recommend checking out One Knight’s Desire, it was a delight to read.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
