A Body in the B&B is book 1 in Katie Marsh’s new cozy mystery series, The Christie Sisters Mysteries.
Jennifer and Lizzie were raised by their aunt in the small town of Lupton Water after the sudden death of their parents. When their aunt dies, the sisters return to town to find they along with a stranger, Declan, have inherited equal shares of their aunt’s B&B. To keep their shares, the sisters must live there, together, for a year. Unfortunately they have been estranged for thirty years, and Declan is unpleasant to say the least.
When Declan turns up dead, the police have their eye on Jennifer as the culprit, and the sisters must set aside their differences to clear Jennifer’s name.
A Body in the B&B is an amusing cozy mystery, featuring two pets, a cat named Clementine, and a dog named Gizmo, that provide quite a bit of comic relief. Best of all they have a few chapters from their points of view, which I found unique, and entertaining.
It was pleasant to watch the sisters set aside their former issues, and rebuild their relationship as they worked to find the real killer.
There were some genuinely hilarious moments that made me laugh out loud, my favourite of these was when Jennifer met the detective.
The mystery was a bit predictable in the end, but the story was still enjoyable.
This was one of the more entertaining cozy mysteries I’ve read recently and would recommend it to any lover of lighthearted mysteries.
