ARC Review: Solar Eclipse of the Heart by Kate Robb

Solar Eclipse of the Heart is book 4 in Kate Robb’s Dial Delights series. I have read the entire series, but each book is easily read as a standalone as the books are connected more by the magical realism theme than by recurring characters.

Having read and loved the previous three books in the series, I was really looking forward to Solar Eclipse of the Heart, and I’m happy to say that I wasn’t disappointed.

Annalise Harris has endured a lot of loss in her relatively young life, and as a result she has withdrawn into a rather lonely existence to protect herself. When her new roommate, Mackenzie Smith,  moves in, Annalise is shocked to find the roommate is not the woman she was expecting, but a handsome young man.

Part of the charm of this series is the way the author incorporates magical elements into the story without making them the main point. I love how they give both the reader and the character insight into something the character is struggling with.

Solar Eclipse of the Heart also has a theme of found family. Despite Annalise’s efforts to cut herself off, she is surrounded by people who care for her and over the course of the novel she comes to appreciate them.

The best relationship in the novel is the romance that blossoms between Annalise and Mackenzie. I loved the way their relationship progressed first as friends, then became deeper.

Solar Eclipse of the Heart is a lovely, feel good romance, but it does have a few tough moments as Annalise struggles to deal with the recent death of her beloved uncle. Maybe have a few tissues handy while reading.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Solar Eclipse of the Heart is available on October 6 2026.
