Review: Beachfront Bakery: A Killer Cupcake by Fiona Grace

Beachfront Bakery: A Killer Cupcake is book 1 in Fiona Grace’s Beachfront Bakery cozy mystery series

Alison has managed to get fired from her job, and dumped by her boyfriend of three years, all in the same day. When she and her brother visit the small town of Willow Bay, Ali spots the perfect location for a bakery, and is soon opening the doors to her shop. Unfortunately, the day after her grand opening, a body is found on the beach, and Ali, feeling she may be a suspect, decides that she must solve the mystery.

This was a really enjoyable read for me. I liked the setting and the characters. I did have some issues with many of the stereotypes (Italian mob boss, Australian surfer, leggy blonde with a bikini shop, etc.), but overall they didn’t diminish my enjoyment of the story.

The only part that I really found unbelievable was that Alison would sign a lease on a store, and a new apartment with no money, and no business plan whatsoever. I mean, if she had at least been doing the background work on running a bakery, and had some savings to be able to do so, it would have been more believable, but once I was able to get past that I really enjoyed the rest of the story.

This is a fun, light read for a hot summer day. I’ll be checking out other books in the series to see how Ali’s bakery makes out.

At the time of this post this book is free to download on Amazon, and Kobo, and probably other portals as well, but I did not check all of them.

    1. It was a fun read, the rest of the series has some continuity issues (coming up in subsequent blog posts) so they are best not read back to back. But they are quick, easy reads. This book is free on Amazon and Kobo, and the rest of the books are in the Kobo Plus program, so they were free for me, I didn’t mind the issues so much since I didn’t have to buy them.
