For Services Rendered is book 17 in the Barker & Llewelyn mystery series by Will Thomas, but it’s easily read as a standalone novel, even for someone new to the series.
Barker and Llewelyn are hired to find a Chinese student who disappeared, and who had been involved in unrest in China. At the same time they feel under threat when Barker’s arch nemesis returns after they believed him to be dead, and Barker’s former companions begin disappearing.
While as I stated, it can be read as a standalone, it did take me a chapter or two to really settle into this book and the characters in it. Once I did though I really enjoyed the story.
I quite liked the characters and the way they played off of each other. They were quite amusing at times.
Pacing wise, I found the story a bit slow for at least the first half, but it picked in the second half, even giving us a chase scene on the water.
I enjoyed For Services Rendered and would not hesitate to read another book in the series.
